I tried this place for the first time last weekend and everything was great. Fried chicken, collard greens, cornbread, chili and coleslaw. Even the Southern Ice Tea was delicious.

[Garran, Thank you so much for writing. The food served by Chef Sean's kitchen is some of the tastiest I've had in a while. Like you, I think it's all good. Hope you continue to visit Soul just as I have.]

Ono Kine,

Welcome Back! I was hoping you’d return to your roots.

[Brent, Thank you. I'm not sure if I'm returning to my roots, but I'm going to start writing more. Hope you stick around.]

I’m glad that there’s some representation of Southern cooking now in Hawaii that isn’t Popeye’s. No offense to Popeye’s, of course. I ate there a lot when I lived in HI. :)

Soul food is one type of food I discovered to be absurdly delicious when I moved to Cleveland and miss terribly once I move back to Hawaii, aside from the plethora of mom and pop Lebanese, Turkish, and Polish restaurants available here along with the scant but at least available Malaysian, Ethiopian, Brazilian/Peruvian, and Cambodian restaurants.

[Cassaendra, Yes. It's really nice that we have soul food here...finally...and it's great! It certainly is one of the things I missed when I moved back to Hawaii from the states. Honestly, we need more diversity in the cuisine here. While I appreciate the abundance of Asian food here (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai), I really wish other cuisines were represented as well.]
